A recently-delivered Volvo FH16-750 6×2 Lite pusher axle tractor unit marks ten years ownership by the family’s third generation and a change of operating name for Chipping Campden-based, Jeffreys Transport.
Supplied by Pete Swinnerton, Transport Solutions Executive at Truck & Bus Wales & West Ltd, the new Volvo FH16-750 is fitted with a Globetrotter Cab, I-Shift automated gearbox and a single reduction drive axle with a ratio of 3.08:1. Jeffreys Transport opted for Volvo’s factory-fitted Lite pusher axle on a 3,800mm wheelbase chassis with front steel and rear air suspension.
“We previously traded under my father’s name of Barry Jeffrey Transport, but I have operated the business for ten years now,” informs Alex Jeffrey Managing Director at Jeffreys Transport. “My son, who is the fourth generation of our family to be involved, has been onboard since February and the new name now ‘future proofs’ our operation,” Alex adds.
Alex reports, “Our new flagship Volvo offers 28.7 tonnes payload, which is extremely reasonable when compared to our Volvo FH-500s, which have a 29.0 tonne payload capacity.” He adds, “We currently run an all Volvo fleet consisting of four Euro-6 FHs and a three year old FM and usually work within 130-mile radius of base. That means the average annual mileages are not incredibly high and usually come in at about 110,000 kilometres.”
“We also opted for a five-year Volvo Service Contract with the FH16-750, which will be done at our closest dealerpoint – Truck & Bus Wales & West in Evesham. The driver is really delighted with our new flagship and the truck is bedding in well, with fuel returns being well within our expected parameters,” Alex concludes.
Founded in the 1960s, Jeffreys Transport has been a loyal Volvo trucks customer since the early F86 and F88 models and its staff team has built up a comprehensive mechanical knowledge of the marque. The company’s on-site workshops provide an in-house maintenance facility, with third party servicing and repairs also carried out.
The new vehicle will haul a Fruehauf bulk tipper trailer for the transport of grain, pulses and aggregates in addition to the supply of materials for anaerobic digestion plants.
