CW Russell Takes Fleet to 50 with Mercedes-Benz
ESTABLISHED 30 YEARS AGO, MIDDLESBROUGH-BASED CW RUSSELL HAS JUST REACHED A FLEET STRENGTH OF 50 TRUCKS, THE LATEST OF WHICH ARE FOUR NEW MERCEDES-BENZ AROCS 8X4 TIPPERS FITTED WITH HARSH TIPPING GEARS AND TOWNEND STEEL BODIES.
Primarily engaged in tipping, bulk haulage and recycling, CW Russell’s fleet is specified above all else for solid, everyday reliable operation, whatever the individual application. “In our business, no two days are ever the same” says owner Charlie Russell, “so we want trucks that can handle anything and everything. After long experience, the combination of HARSH gears, Townend bodies and Mercedes-Benz chassis has proven itself to be pretty near perfect.”
The tipping gear in question on the new trucks is the HARSH combined ram and tank HFT154 model, the strongest and most ‘heavy duty’ of the HARSH range of front end gears. Mounted on the ultra – sturdy Arocs chassis, it’s a perfect pairing for onerous tipper work.
Completing these vehicles are smooth sided ‘Samson’ all-steel tipper bodies from Yorkshire–based L. Townend Ltd, which find particular favour with Charlie Russell for their rugged construction, proven reliability and ease of upkeep. Made in Hardox 450 with 3.2mm sides and 5mm floors, they are a truly versatile solution for general purpose tipping.
Giving an easy 19 tonnes plus payload, the new Arocs eight wheelers are employed around Teesside on everything from site work and recycling through to delivering stone and aggregates.
Director Richard Townend notes “we’ve dealt with Charlie Russell for many years now, and are delighted that our products continue to prove themselves in their particularly arduous working environment. In similar vein, we have no hesitation at all in building our bodies with HARSH tipping gears, whether they are front end types or underfloors. Our two companies have worked together for a long while now, and share common objectives of delivering the best possible products for tipper operators everywhere, always backed up by effective and responsive after sales support.”
2023 has seen HARSH continue to broaden its product range grow its sales volumes with customers not just in tipping but also in waste, recycling, utilities and environmental services.
Jason Bramall, HARSH Business Development Manager for Northern England comments: “Whilst HARSH continues to expand, it’s still the case that tipper operators like CW Russell remain at the heart of our business, and we are hence delighted to have been able to once again supply our tipping gears for these latest four vehicles. Reaching a 50 vehicle fleet size is a tremendous achievement, and we wish Charlie and his team continuing success into the future.”
