Cheshire Demolitions and Excavation Contractors Ltd., a demolition and excavation contractor with one of the largest reclamation and salvage yards in the North West of England has ordered another two new Volvo FMX 8x4s chassis and is continuing with a wholesale switch to the marque.
Until recently Macclesfield-based, the company ran another make of tipper truck, but Neil Trueman, Contracts Manger at Cheshire Demolitions, decided to make the switch to Volvo Trucks through his local Thomas Hardie Commercials Ltd dealerpoint in Middlewich.
Supplied by Mark Lingard, Customer Solutions Manager at Thomas Hardie Commercials Ltd, the new FMX 8×4 tippers are powered by Volvo’s D11K Euro-6 engines, which deliver 410hp and 1,960Nm of torque. I-Shift AT2612F 12-speed automated transmission systems were also part of the specifications.
Fitted on Extra-High B-ride chassis, the FMXs come with Day cab options and Drive FM packages. The FMX tippers also have straight-beam front axles for ground clearance, brushed aluminium wheel rims and a four-camera digital video recording system by Xvision. The trucks are also fitted with Taperlite Tipper Bodies supplied by Boweld, which offer a 19,900kg payload figure.
“We now have four Volvos on our 20-strong fleet. All the drivers love the FMXs; we cannot order them quickly enough as far as they are concerned! We are about to order two more for next year,” reports Neil Trueman.
The trucks work seven days a week around the local region and typically cover 120,000kms a year.
One factor Neil has been really impressed by is the support he receives from Thomas Hardie Commercials. “Back-up from the supplying dealerpoint is crucial for our business. We have been let down by our original supplier in the past, but now we can take the trucks into Thomas Hardie Commercials in the evening and they will be ready to collect, first thing the following morning. That arrangement means we maximise productivity, with no loss of working time. That is the level of support our business requires,” he concludes.
